Most people think that autonomous cars are years away from becoming mainstream. They would be surprised to learn that self-driving cars are more feasible than they think; many vehicles already offer semi-autonomous features. Certainly they will play a role in our way of life, and it will have a profound impact on how we build and operate commercial/ corporate real estate. How will autonomous cars work in parking garages or underground? What if there’s a failure with the telemetry equipment, who is liable? What will future parking garages look like? (Will we even need as many?) Leaving a meeting and ordering a driverless Uber car will change travel forever, and this enlightening track will explore the numerous potential impacts on how we design and operate buildings.
